Valentine’s Day, also known as Saint Valentine’s Day or the Feast of Saint Valentine, is a holiday celebrated on February 14th. The holiday is named after Saint Valentine, a Catholic priest who lived in the 3rd century and was martyred for secretly marrying couples in ancient Rome during a time when marriage was banned by the emperor. The day has also been associated with romantic love since the High Middle Ages, with the traditional emphasis on love and affection between intimate companions. It is celebrated in many countries around the world, although it is not a public holiday in most of them.
